Alex Leatherwood Claimed by Bears via Waivers
It was announced less than twenty-four hours ago that the Las Vegas Raiders released former Alabama offensive lineman, Alex Leatherwood. We now know the destination of the former first round draft pick as the Chicago Bears have claimed Leatherwood off waivers.
Alex Leatherwood is one of six players being claimed off waivers by the Bears. Other players include...
-Cornerback Josh Blackwell from the Philadelphia Eagles
-Defensive end Kingsley Jonathan from the Buffalo Bills
-Defensive end Armon Watts from the Minnesota Vikings
-Linebacker Sterling Weatherford from the Indianapolis Colts
-Tight end Trevon Wesco from the New York Jets
Alex Leatherwood started in 17 games last year in his rookie season where he struggled to adjust to the professional landscape of the NFL, finishing fourth in penalties in the league.
Also included in the waiver is Leatherwood's previous contract, where he has three years remaining on his rookie deal and $5.9 million guaranteed.
While it is currently unknown if the former Crimson Tide captain will be playing as a tackle or a guard, it will be interesting to see where Leatherwood fits as the Bears have been fine tuning their offensive line all off-season.
