NASCAR Cup Series Driver, Supporter of Alabama Football, Signs With New Team
Tuesday, a two-time NASCAR Cup Series champion and supporter of Alabama football, signed with a new team.
Kyle Busch, the driver of the iconic No. 18 M&M's Toyota Camry for Joe Gibbs Racing, will now join Chevrolet's Richard Childress Racing for the 2023 season.
Busch has been placed in the legendary No. 8 car for the upcoming year, which was once driven to the front by Dale Earnhardt Jr. around tracks like Talladega.
To make the matter more intriguing, Busch now plans to drive for a team in which Dale Earnhardt Sr. won 6 of his 7 championships.
With the news that Busch will be leaving Gibbs and joining RCR, the current driver of the No. 8 Chevrolet finds himself in a pinch. Tyler Reddick, a two-time race winner this season and current playoff drive, is scheduled to join 23XI Racing in 2024. However, he is still under contract with RCR for 2023 and now without his original ride.
Childress told members of the media on Tuesday that Reddick would remain with RCR in 2023, but under what car, remains to be seen.
Back to Busch, the 37-year-old Las Vegas native has grown accustom to a Southern lifestyle in the Charlotte/Concord metro of North Carolina. The talented driver has spent much of his life living in the area, with racing at the forefront of everything he does. His brother, Kurt Busch, drives for 23XI Racing at the moment, while his 7-year-old son Brexton pilots dirt cars around local tracks like Millbridge Speedway.
Last week, Busch shared that he is a fan of the Crimson Tide in college football, during a TikTok put out at NASCAR Cup Playoffs Media Day. We plan to follow up with Busch on his passion for Alabama at an upcoming race very soon.
