ICYMI: Pistons To Bring Back Teal Uniforms This Coming Season
The Detroit Pistons announced on Monday evening that they will wear the teal uniforms that they wore from 1996-2001 during select games for the upcoming 2022-23 season.
The Pistons wore the teal as their road uniforms during those years, which featured Grant Hill, Lindsey Hunter, and Jerry Stackhouse.
While most purists disliked the uniforms (seen above, worn by current Piston Saddiq Bey) at the time, as it was a major departure from the traditional red, white, and blue they've worn for decades. But in recent years, there had been calls from younger fans to bring them back, at the very least on a limited basis next season.
Mike Zavodsky, the Pistons Chief Business Officer said this:
“To Pistons fans everywhere – we heard you, and this is for you, the teal jerseys represent a ‘colorful’ time in Pistons basketball and NBA history. We are thrilled to re-introduce the teal to a new generation of basketball fans, and can’t wait to see this version of Detroit Basketball suit up in them.”
The team says they will wear them around 10 times next season. Although it is not known as to what games that they'll wear them.
The Pistons have had a busy offseason. They drafted Jaden Ivey and Jalen Duren in the first round of the NBA Draft earlier this summer. They also re-signed forward Marvin Bagley, III to a three-year deal. They signed free agent Kevin Knox to a two-year deal. And they acquired Nerlens Noel and Alec Burks from the New York Knicks in a trade where they got the rights to pick the aforementioned Duren.
