Flights Being Cancelled Along With Schools as Winter Storm Hits Midland Odessa
The winter storm is here and with it comes airline cancellations, school closings, and road closures which are all forecast to happen this evening.
According to the Midland Reporter-Telegram, airlines have canceled many flights scheduled for Thursday in the wake of the winter storm heading south out of Canada.
Everyone from New Mexico to Vermont will be affected by this cold blast and the airlines are already preparing.
Schools in the Permian Basin are being closed for Thursday and the list keeps growing as more districts decide to take the safe route and close schools instead of having people out in what could be a treacherous winter storm but not as bad as the storm we saw almost a year ago.
The power grid which failed last year because of the single-digit temperatures was a result of several days of below-freezing temperatures. This winter storm is forecast to be gone by Saturday and temperatures to get up above freezing by then as well.
So we are all hoping that forecast is the true one and we are not shut down for days and days.
Beware of the grocery stores being bombarded and long lines and empty shelves tonight and tomorrow but everything should be back to normal by the weekend.
Back to the airlines, they have canceled over 1,000 flights across the country so if you are flying out of the area, you might want to double-check your flight and make sure that it is still scheduled or if it has been canceled.
