I don't have kids in school so you might think my opinion is irrelevant but I'm not understanding the whole extra break thing. We wonder why these kids don't know basic things these days, it's because they don't ever have to go to school. I am going to sound like one of those old people but when we were in school we only got out 2 and half days at Thanksgiving, two weeks at Christmas and Spring Break and our two bad weather holidays. People wonder why these kids are so behind, they don't go to school enough to learn anything.
Now from my understanding the reason for the fall and extra spring break is to allow kids how are behind a chance to catch up. I had a parent tell me if state testing was passed then that student would not have to attend. But if they did not pass they would have to attend.
How about this we stop teaching based on a test and teach based on what these kids need to know in life.
