Alabama Basketball Set for Rematch with Memphis in December
The Alabama men's basketball team looks to avenge a loss from last season, when the Tide host the Memphis Tigers on December 13.
A lackluster offensive performance from the Tide led to an Alabama loss in Memphis last December.
Alabama entered the game on a four-game winning streak, which included back-to-back wins over then-No. 3 Gonzaga and then-No. 14 Houston, while Memphis entered the game on a four-game losing streak. With a five-point deficit at halftime, the Tide could not get back into the game, leading to the 92-78 loss.
Three Alabama players scored in double figures in last year’s contest including Keon Ellis (19), Jahvon Quinerly (12), and Jaden Shackleford (10).
The Tigers were led in scoring by DeAndre Williams with 20 points.
The Tigers ended the 2021-22 season with an overall record of 22-11, falling to No. 1 seed Gonzaga in the second round of the NCAA Tournament.
The Tide finished last season 19-14 and 9-9 in the SEC, falling to Notre Dame in the first round of the NCAA Tournament. Nate Oats’ squad will look very different next year with new additions from the transfer portal and incoming freshman class.
In the overall series, the Tigers have a 5-3 lead over the Tide. The last time these two squads faced off in Tuscaloosa, the Tide suffered an 87-76 defeat.
Alabama looks to get its first win over Memphis since 2017.
