Who remembers WATERBEDS from back in the day? If you remember the 1970s and 1980's then you for sure know about the motion of the waterbeds! And for those of you that have no clue what I'm talking about, yes a WATERBED was a mattress made to fill up with water so you could lay on it. Think of laying on a pool float mat or lounger. LOL

Here in the Permian Basin, one of the places to go back in the day to grab a waterbed was Big Sur Waterbeds. Yep, it was a store dedicated to offering you water mattresses for your water bed.

This was the location of the Big Sur Waterbed store in Odessa, Texas back in the 80's up to the early '90s. Back then, the Big Sur Waterbed store took the entire building at this location.

You were literally sleeping on WATER! And, once you were on it, was crazy hard to get off the dang bed. Yes, I have been on a waterbed before and I can remember getting out of the bed was a CHORE especially if you had a couple of extra pounds on like I did! LOL

There were some waterbeds back in the day that was pretty affordable for their time. You could get a King Size for $169 bucks!

THE 90S BROUGHT THE END OF WATERBEDS AS WE KNEW IT!

By the '90s the waterbed CRAZE was pretty much over. With new technologies for mattresses like Tempur-Pedic and Select Comfort, the waterbed became a thing of the past. Plus, many apartment complexes and landlords started to BAN waterbeds because of water LEAKS and accidents from mattresses leaking all over the place. But, if you search on the internet you can still find some for sale today!
