Matt Wells and his coordinators are feeling pretty good about game one after a 45-10 win over Montana State.

Offensively, Texas Tech looked sharp early, driving right down the field with Bowman going 76 yards without an incomplete pass, finishing the drive with a touchdown pass to McLane Mannix for a 7-point lead. The second drive the Red Raiders would do it on the ground with SaRodorick Thompson pounding it into the endzone for a 14-0 lead.

After a fumble by Texas Tech's Xavier White at the 1-yard line, Montana State would put together an 80-yard drive for their only touchdown of the game.

It wouldn't take long for the Red Raiders to bounce back though, as Armand Shyne would blast through the line and take it to the house from 69 yards away, making the score 21-7.

At halftime, that lead expanded, 28-7.

The second half would be pretty much more of the same. After the two teams traded field goals, Alan Bowman would add a rushing touchdown and a second passing touchdown, this one to Lubbock's own Xavier White.

When all was said and done, the Red Raiders stood tall with 691 yards on offense, while holding the Bobcats to just 289. That's 255 rushing yards, by the way. Armand Shye led the way with 125 yards on the ground. Maybe the most impressive stat of the night, though, was Texas Tech's 35 first downs.

As happy as Yost and his offensive coaches probably are right now, Keith Patterson and the defensive coaches couldn't have seen much more from their unit in game one.

Jordyn Brooks ran around like a maniac, getting double-digit tackles and leading the Red Raiders to force nine Bobcat punts. The Red Raider' defense brought pressure from multiple angles and absolutely dominated, holding the Bobcats to just 2-16 on 3rd down.

It was a great start for Coach Wells and his new tenure here at Texas Tech.
