Texas Tech Signal Caller Honored With Big 12 Award

Texas Tech football has entered the Behren Morton Era. They entered it after the first drive in Stillwater, but the freshman's start against West Virginia cemented his place at the helm of Joey Mcguire's program leading Zach Kittley's offense.

It's nearly a perfect match.

Morton led the Red Raiders to a 48-10 domination of West Virginia on Saturday, finishing with 325 yards and two touchdowns through the air. He led Texas Tech's incredibly fast offense to a quick start that didn't really skip a beat beyond a two-drive stall in the second quarter. For his efforts against West Virginia, he was named the Big 12 Newcomer of the week.

The game was Morton's first start in Jones AT&T Stadium and Morton says it was an experience that he won't soon forget. "It was just a surreal moment," said Morton in the presser after the game. "Getting to play in the Jones for the first time with the best fans in the country. It was really cool, and it's going to be a moment I cherish for a long time."

"It means the world, it really does," Morton said when he was discussing the roar of the crowd when he was announced as the starter. "Lubbock, the atmosphere we all have, it's so real. Getting to get the first start and to play for this University, it's a tremendous opportunity."

Morton will likely start against Baylor, though Tyler Shough is back in the picture after being cleared medically. Joey McGuire said he'd be, "Available to play this week."

I don't think the conversation is easy, but I do think the decision is.

Behren Morton will be the guy if he's healthy and functioning.
