TCU came to Lubbock Monday night, but they could have stayed in Fort Worth and had a better showing. The Horned Frogs lost to the Texas Tech Red Raiders 88-42 in the United Supermarkets Arena. It was the largest margin of victory over a Big 12 opponent ever for Texas Tech.
The Texas Tech Red Raiders are now 10-3 in the Chris Beard Era in games where a conference opponent travels to Lubbock after beating the Red Raiders on the road. Texas Tech is +14 in scoring margin in these games. That includes beating Kansas by 29 last season after losing in Lawrence, and Baylor by 25 after losing in Waco.
They had already exacted revenge on West Virginia, beating them by eight after losing in Morgantown.
The 46-point victory over TCU was the worst loss for the team in at least 30 years.
The win puts Texas Tech in 3rd place in the Big 12 standings and in a great position in the NCAA tournament...if they keep winning. Starting the second half of Big 12 play with a comeback and a blowout is a great statement to make, though.
The Red Raiders were electric shooting the ball last night, making 60 percent of their shots from the field, including 13 three-pointers. Both Kyler Edwards and Davide Moretti were 4-6 from beyond, leading the team. Five Red Raiders were in double figures; Moretti and Edwards were joined by Kevin McCullar, Jahmi'us Ramsey and TJ Holyfield.
Holyfield also continued his hot streak on the defensive end, adding three blocks to his impressive totals in the last two weeks.
Speaking of defense, TCU's Desmond Bane, the second-leading scorer in the Big 12, was held to just 7 points on 3-9 shooting. As a team, TCU shot just 26 percent.
Texas Tech gets back on the road this weekend in Stillwater, Oklahoma against the Oklahoma State Cowboys.
