The Texas Tech Red Raiders exploded over the weekend for 65 runs, while holding their opponents to just 11 runs in four games.

While there are a lot of faces that returned for the team and saw success this weekend, such as Clayton Beeter, Micah Dallas, Brian Klein and Braxton Fulford, it was the freshmen that really exploded onto the scene. And nobody was more explosive than Nate Rombach. Nobody in the entire country, for that matter.

Rombach was named National Player of the Week by two different publications. D1baseball and the NCBWA both named Rombach, or as we call him, RomBlast, after he hit 5 home runs in 4 games. He started all four games with two games as DH and two behind the dish at catcher.

It wasn't all Rombach, though. Jace Jung was also electric, winning Newcomer of the Week for the Big 12 for his 3rd base play and at the plate, with a couple of home runs and double-digit RBIs in his own box score.

Just because those two received the accolades doesn't mean other freshmen were any less exciting on opening weekend.

Dillon Carter started all four games in the outfield and was productive at the plate, getting on base at a .588 clip and stealing three bases on three attempts. Redshirt Freshmen Cal Conley flashed speed and power with two home runs, one inside the park, and TJ Rumfield showed some pop with seven hits in 12 at bats.

On the mound, both Andrew Devine and Brandon Hendrix tossed quality innings in relief.

Overall, it was a very strong weekend for the freshmen that expect to be a huge part of a Texas Tech baseball team with legitimate expectations to not only be in Omaha, but make some noise once they show up.
