Matt Wells, ripping a page from the Chris Beard playbook, is trying like hell to get people to come to his games. Step one: Bribe students with food and stuff.

Everyone is invited to the Jones tonight for practice at Jones AT&T Stadium for what they are calling "Matador Monday", which will feature an open practice with Coach Wells mic'd up and a pep rally after the practice with speeches from Wells and Coach Beard.

The practice will run about 45-minutes and the speeches might go on forever. Gate 1 will open for fans at 6:45 and Free parking is available in the lots east and west of the Jones.

Here is where it gets interesting. According to a press release from Texas Tech, "Tech will provide free pizza to the first 500 students through the gates and will have several giveaways throughout the evening, including copies of Madden 20 for both PS4 and XBOX One. A live DJ will also be on the field for music throughout practice and during the pep rally." Be good to the students and they will be good to you.

Also, this is in stark contrast to the secretive nature of the former Kliff Kingsbury who wouldn't dare to be so open to the public. Will this lead to wins? Who knows. But it's an interesting concept that might lead to better attendance. We all miss those pep rally moments from high school right? I wonder if there will be a tuba there for me to play.

Kickoff for Texas Tech's season opener against Montana State is scheduled for 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 31st and you can listen to the Talk 1340 Countdown to Kickoff show from 12:00-2:00 p.m. to get the inside scoop on the Big 12 landscape and the Red Raiders.
