Texas Tech Baseball Walks Off Weekend Sweep of Rice [PHOTOS]
The Texas Tech baseball team got to 16-1 over the weekend with a sweep of Rice.
The sweep wasn't as easy as it sounds, though. The Red Raiders took care of business Friday night 7-1, but they trailed big on both Saturday and Sunday and had to battle into the 11th inning on Sunday just to put the Owls away.
Clayton Beeter and Micah Dallas were the stars of the show on Friday night. They combined for the complete game while striking out 17 Owl batters and walking just one. Jace Jung and Nate Rombach were responsible for multiple RBIs in the opening win of the series.
Next up was Saturday, and it was all Owls early as they jumped to a 7-0 lead and bounced starter Bryce Bonnin in the second inning. That seven-run lead wouldn't last long, though, as the Red Raiders proceeded to score five runs in the fifth and sixth innings to take the lead. They'd add four in the seventh and three in the eight for good measure beating Rice 19-12.
Texas Tech batters had 16 hits and took 12 walks on their way to the big number on the scoreboard.

Finally, Sunday came around. The Red Raiders starter once again got bounced early when Austin Becker didn't even escape the 1st inning, leaving the Red Raiders down 4-0 early.
The Red Raiders pitching staff would flex its depth, sending eight arms to the mound, with Kurt Wilson and Micah Dallas shutting down the owls in the final four innings of the game. It was 6-2 through the 7th inning when the Texas Tech offense began to chip away. They'd get two back in the 8th, and tie the game at six in the 9th inning with two more.
In the bottom of the 11th, a pinch hitter would get the magic walk off when TJ Rumfield entered to knock in Brian Klein.
Texas Tech will now go to Biloxi, Mississippi to face off with Mississippi State before coming back to Lubbock to open Big 12 play against the West Virginia Mountaineers on Friday, March 13th with a three-game series.
