Montana Fouts Wins SEC Pitcher of the Week
Alabama softball saw standout performances from its pitching lineup over the weekend with no runs allowed by either Alex Salter or Lauren Esman, as well as a no-hitter from Jaala Torrence and a perfect game from Montana Fouts. Fouts's performance marked the eighth perfect game in program history, and the third in her career.
Fouts was recognized as the SEC Pitcher of the Week for her display of leadership in the game against the Longwood Lancers. She struck out 14 of the 18 batters faced.
Fouts is now responsible for three of the Tide's eight perfect games, with the last one being in the 2021 Women's College World Series where she shutout UCLA on her 21st birthday.
Alabama's pitching depth has been one of the major focuses for the team since the eliminating loss to Stanford in the NCAA Tuscaloosa regional last May. Pitching coach Lance McMahon has been working to develop the rest of the pitching rotation, after the departure of Lexi Kilfoyl in the 2022 offseason left the Tide feeling dry in the circle. Salter, Esman, and Torrence have all proved to be reliable pitchers in their own rights alongside Fouts.
Alabama softball plays Western Michigan at Rhoads Stadium on Tuesday at 6:00pm CST.
