I know people want to make this a big story. It's not.

Don't get me wrong, Kobie McKinzie is a huge recruit. He's a 4-star or 5-star (depending on where you look), and he's heading into his sophomore year at Lubbock-Cooper. That's right; he's not going to college until 2022.

He "committed" to Texas Tech as a freshman after just a semester of varsity experience. Now, a few short months later, he's got more offers, visits and experience.

McKinzie announced his decision to decommit from Texas Tech via Twitter:

He hasn't ruled out Texas Tech, and if Texas Tech is in a position to compete for a Big 12 Title in two years, McKinzie could recommit. Or he could go to Alabama, or Washington, or Ohio State, or Clemson, or anywhere else in America that he chooses. He's on pace to be that kind of athlete and prospect.

He could also get burned out on football and decide to be a ballet dancer.

We're looking too far into the future to be concerned about this kid's decision that he doesn't have to make for another three years. All we have to do is sit back and watch him dominate high school running backs and quarterbacks for the next few years while he weighs his options.

For what it's worth, I wouldn't count Matt Wells out of the fight just yet.
