Dallas Cowboys Tie An Almost 100-Year-Old Record in Win Over Colts

Last Sunday's win by the Dallas Cowboys over the Indianapolis Colts tied a record set back in the early years of the NFL in 1925.

According to the NFL, the Dallas Cowboys scored 54 points on Indianapolis on Sunday night, which was the fifth-most points in team history, but that was not the record-setting news of the game, what was record-setting was Dallas' 33-0 rout in the fourth quarter.

The 33-0 score in the fourth quarter tied a record set way back in the early days of the NFL when the Chicago Cardinals (now Arizona Cardinals) outscored the Milwaukee Badgers (who ceased operations in 1926) 33-0 in the fourth quarter of a week 13 game in 1925.

The Cowboys' 33 unanswered points was a great feat but 33 points were second only to the Detroit Lions' 34 points against the Chicago Bears in 2007 who were trailing the Bears 13-3 at the beginning of the fourth quarter and ended up beating them 37-27.

But the Cowboys' points were unanswered by the Colts and the Lions allowed the Bears to score 14 points in the final quarter of their game which is what makes the difference and ties the record set in 1925 by the Chicago Cardinals.

The Cowboys at 9-3 are now two games behind the league-leading Philadelphia Eagles at 11-1.

The Cowboys will meet the Eagles for the second time this season at home on Christmas Eve to avenge their week six 26-17 loss.

That should be a different game than in week 6 when backup quarterback Cooper Rush was in for the injured Dak Prescott.

Since week 7, when Prescott returned, the Cowboys are averaging 37.2 points per game and averaging 30 or more points over that span.
