With Yankees fans impatiently waiting to see when their homegrown modern-day Babe Ruth, Aaron Judge, is going to sign a contract, one that will hopefully that will keep him in pinstripes for the rest of his career, another Bomber prodigy is waiting in the wings or the minors for his shot. Yankees' prospect Jasson Domínguez, nicknamed "El Marciaon" or "The Martian" because of his amazing 5-tool abilities, just finished his Arizona Fall league season and is getting closer to the Bronx.

It was a whirlwind year for the prospect from the Dominican Republic. Remember, Jasson Domínguez received the Yankees largest international amateur signing bonus ever. The Pinstripes laid out $5 million to "The Martian" at the age of 16 in 2018. Well, after a less-than-productive 2021 campaign, which followed a completely idle pandemic season, Dominguez began to hit his stride. The outfielder was promoted from the Yankees Florida State League team in Tampa (low A) all the way to Somerset (AA) by the end of the season.

The future Yankee is picking up plenty of fans, including his teammates. “When you’re playing against him, you think he’s this cocky, arrogant kid who just has it all,” TJ Rumfield, a 12th-round pick of the Phillies told Zach Buchanan of theathletic.com. “Then you get to play with him and the kid’s down to earth and he wants to have fun and play baseball.” Notice Rumfield called Domínguez a "kid." He has a lot of room to grow and so does his fanbase.

This past summer, the Hudson Valley Renegades, the Yankees High A affiliate, had an autograph signing for fans. Teammate TJ Rumsfield said that they had a few people at the other players table “And then they had Jasson’s table, and Jasson’s line was out of the ballpark.”

According to theathletic.com, Yankees officials pushed their young prospect this season because the pandemic had limited his at-bats and repetitions in the outfield. The Yankees believe Domínguez handled it well. “I’m going to work on having a better diet,” Dominguez said, “and being able to have that endurance. I’m doing to work hard and do the best I can, so when it comes time to make the decision, the people who do make the decision are going to make it.” Domínguez is scheduled to begin the season in AA Somerset. Who knows? Maybe a September call up? If not, 2024 is the speculated landing date for "The Martian."
