Creepiest Hike Trail In Texas Is Only 3 Hours From Midland Odessa
Who doesn't love a creepy adventure? If you are a hiker and you love creepy this is right up your alley. We all pass through Cisco on I-20 headed to Dallas, but who knew it had such an adventure. Cisco, TX is home to the Old Zoo Nature Trails.
Old Zoo Nature Trails, consist of two different hiking trails, but you don't have to be a professional hiker to enjoy these trails. Each trail is less than a mile long and an elevation gain of less than 150 feet. The trails will take you through a zoo that was built in the 1920's and later abandoned after a few bizarre things happened. According to Only In Your State here's what happened:
"Although the zoo wasn't particularly large - it only had a handful of animals - vacationers still flocked to it in droves because it doubled as a cottage campground with a resort-style pool. After the poisoning of a bear and the unrelated death of a deer, the zoo quickly fell into a state of disrepair. The swimming pool remained operational into the '70s, but nature began to reclaim the cages that once held creatures captive. In the spring of 2021, a nonprofit organization known as Students, Athletics, Families, and Education - or SAFE, for short - took on the arduous task of turning the overgrown property into a hiking area. Their efforts were successful, and by summertime, people were lacing up their boots to come check out the trails. "
