Trevon Diggs is Blocking Out His Naysayers

Playing for the Dallas Cowboys comes with its perks but is also met with an immense amount of pressure. On one side, you’re playing for “America’s Team” and one of the most recognizable sports brands in the world. On the flip side it comes with playing under a microscope where every play is evaluated by the media and fans.

Cowboys cornerback Trevon Diggs has been under fire this past week after giving up a couple of deep passes in one-on-one drills. However, anyone that knows the game of football understands that not every rep by defensive back is perfect and one video doesn’t tell the full story. One-on-one drills also favor the offense because there is no pass rush or safety help.

The 23-year-old cornerback isn’t worried about his naysayers, but instead is focusing on what he can control.

Diggs stated “I feel like that’s what comes with it. Hate comes with success. I don’t put it past somebody. Everyone is obligated to their own opinion. All I can do is control what I can control on the field and let my play speak for itself. I can’t respond to everybody; I can’t reply to everybody. So I’d rather say nothing at all just perform on the field.”

Diggs is coming off a historic year in his second season. His 11 interceptions tied the Cowboys single-season record set by Everson Walls in 1981. He also registered a team-high 21 pass breakups, earning him a Pro Bowl nomination and First-Team All-Pro recognition. Despite his incredible accomplishments, Diggs has dealt with critics nitpicking at his game.

He spoke to reporters on Monday about the decision to log off of Twitter during camp.

"It's toxic. I used to be on Twitter a lot, but I'm in camp," Diggs said. "I'm trying to focus. I'm trying to lock in and just be better every day."

The Cowboys will conclude training camp on Wednesday, Aug. 10 and then will travel to Denver for a joint practice with Russel Wilson and the Broncos.
