The Texas Tech Red Raiders Are Headed to the Texas Bowl

The Red Raiders finished with a 7-5 record in the 2022 regular season which put them in fourth place in the Big 12 pecking order. TCU went to the CFP after losing to Kansas State in the Big 12 Championship game. Those Wildcats are headed to the Sugar bowl. Next Texas was chosen for the Alamo Bowl. The Cheez-It Bowl chose next and they got a team tied for 9th in the conference.

That means the TaxAct Texas Bowl got an absolute steal in the Red Raiders. Texas Tech fans will flood Houston and the Ole Miss Rebels will be outnumbered in a ridiculous way. The game will be played on December, 28th from NRG Stadium in Houston. Kickoff is slated for 8 p.m. with television coverage provided nationally on ESPN.

This is the Red Raiders' 40th Bowl game in program history which puts the Red Raiders firmly inside the top 25 amongst all NCAA Teams.

The Ole Miss Rebels are also no strangers to the Red Raiders. These two teams played in 2018 at NRG Stadium. They've also played against Ole Miss in the Cotton Bowl in 2008 and two Independence Bowls in 1998 and 1986. The Two teams also played in 2002 and 2003 in a home-and-home series. Ole Miss is 3-0 in Bowl games against Texas Tech and the Red Raiders lost to the Rebels in 2018, but Texas Tech won both of the contests in the early 2000s.

We can’t wait to see a sea of Red Raiders take over NRG Stadium as we face a talented Ole Miss team.”

I love the game and matchup for Texas Tech, but there is also no reason why Oklahoma should be in the Cheez-It Bowl over Texas Tech, Oklahoma State, or Baylor who all finished in front of them in the Big 12 Standings.
