The Red Raiders Will Celebrate America Before SFA Game
Back in 2019 Matt Wells came into Lubbock and made his first tradition known early in the season. During the very first night game at the Jones in Matt Wells tenure at Texas Tech, he proclaimed that the Red Raiders would wear all-black at every night game at The Jones.
Fast forward to season three under Wells and he's kept his promise. The Red Raiders will wear black helmets, black uniforms, and black pants against Stephen F. Austin when they kickoff at 6:00 p.m. this Saturday on September 11th.
The Red Raiders will also "Celebrate America" this weekend on the anniversary of one of the worst events in American History. Texas Tech will honor the 20th anniversary of 9-11. According to texastech.com, "Pregame ceremonies include bagpipes, a 21-gun salute, and a flyover to recognize the lives lost during the terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center in New York City and the Pentagon in the nation's capital. Texas Tech will also recognize several area first responders prior to and throughout its home opener against the Lumberjacks."
The Red Raiders are 1-0 after beating the Houston Cougars 38-21 in Houston last week. The Stephen F. Austin Lumberjacks are 1-0 after beating Tarleton 20-10 in Week one. The last time the two teams met, the Red Raiders won 69-16 back in 2016. Patrick Mahomes threw for 483 yards and four touchdowns. The last time a Sonny Cumbie offense played SFA, the TCU Horned Frogs won 70-7.
I'll pick Texas Tech to beat SFA 56 to 10.
