Texas Tech and Georgia Are (Basically) the Same Football Program

With the state of college football today and the Texas Tech football program going through a recent coaching change, it's a modern miracle that zero scholarship players have announced that they're transferring out of Lubbock.

You know, the place where nobody wants to live and you can get college athletes to commit to. Or so I've been told.

The University of Texas is having a bit of an exodus as a result of their coaching change a year ago, and Oklahoma saw their recruiting class fall apart and several players enter the portal after Lincoln Riley 'Beard-ed' them in favor of USC.

In the Big 12, TCU and Kansas State have also had numerous players enter the transfer portal since the start of the 2021 season. In fact, every team in the Big 12 has had at least one scholarship player enter the transfer portal this season. Same with every team in the Big Ten, ACC, and Pac 12.

Every team in the SEC has also seen transfer portal attrition except for CFP bound Georgia.

That's right: of all the programs in the NCAA Power 5, only Georgia and Texas Tech have 100 percent retention right now.

It's foolish to think that Texas Tech won't have anybody transfer out. It's hard to imagine all four current quarterbacks returning in 2022, especially if Quinn Ewers enters the equation. Beyond that, if Interim Head Coach Sonny Cumbie wanted a few players that might not see time at Texas Tech to follow him to Louisiana Tech, that might happen as well.

Any player that wants to transfer has a one-time free pass to do so without fear of missing a season now after recent rule changes. It also might be that with Joey McGuire going ham in recruiting that some players on the existing roster are simply out-recruited. That kind of roster churn happens at every good program in America at most levels.
