Hendon Hooker, the breakout quarterback for the Tennessee Volunteers left Saturday's 63-38 loss to South Carolina in the 4th quarter with a knee injury.

The school announced that later tests revealed Hooker has a torn left ACL, and will be forced to miss the reminder of the season.

The injury will officially end Hooker's collegiate career as he was a sixth-year senior.

Hooker was in the midst of an All-American-caliber season. He led the Volunteers to a perfect 8-0 start to the season and a vault to No. 1 in the College Football AP Poll.

In the midst of that run was an upset of Alabama, as the Crimson Tide came into Neyland Stadium and was caught off guard by Hooker's explosiveness both through the air and on the ground, resulting in a 52-49 stunner on a last second field goal by Chase McGrath.

Hooker entered the 2021 season as Tennessee's backup quarterback, but quickly emerged as the starter. In his 4 years prior, he spent 4 seasons at Virginia Tech, but never earned a starting role.

He found his home in Tennessee and the 2022 season will be a season to remember, and he will forever go down as the quarterback that helped to turn around a program that's been sick of losing.

Tennessee will close out the regular season this weekend as its playoff chances are now slim to none with the recent loss to the Gamecocks. Not only did the Vols lose all playoff hopes, but they also lost their breakout starting quarterback in the same game.

Volunteers backup quarterback Joe Milton III will likely get the start for Tennessee as they head on the road for a matchup against Vanderbilt this Saturday.
