Ric Flair Makes His Return to West Texas on September 24th
Ric Flair is my favorite professional wrestler of all time and it's not just because Lubbock is becoming his second home with as much as he's in town in the last couple of years. I fell in love with pro wrestling by watching VHS tapes of Ricky "The Dragon" Steamboat and Ric Flair's legendary trilogy.
In middle school, I was a huge WCW fan and loved Ric Flair going against the man, the NWO, and anyone else who he could get his hands on. He'd go on to reinvent himself after going back to WWE with HHH and Evolution. His promo-off with Jay Lethal in TNA is another highlight in my pro wrestling memory.
If you've been around at all as a fan of wrestling you know Ric Flair's name, you don't have to be a superfan to know he's an all-time great. Flair has connected with Davis Smith and the Gorilla Law firm over the last several years and has come to Lubbock for a couple of autograph signings and got on the mic during the Texas Tech basketball game against Texas last year.
Even with the return of Beard and everything that went with it, the Nature Boy still made an impact on the crowd. Recently, Flair came out of retirement for one last match. Much like he returned to the ring for another shot at glory, he's returning to Lubbock for another electric atmosphere.
Ric Flair must love watching Texas Tech beat the Longhorns because he's coming back to Lubbock on September 24th.
This shouldn't be a surprise to you, he told Coach McGuire last year that he wanted to come to a football game.
That game will be the matchup against the Texas Longhorns. Flair, a noted Georgia Bulldog fan, is familiar with the college football scene and will use his talents behind a microphone to pump up the Raider Alley crowd that will be gathered to catch a pregame concert from Jon Wolfe.
Ric Flair isn't the only electric personality coming to West Texas on the 24th, Barstool Sports personality Dana Beers will also be making the trip to Lubbock as he narrows down a list of colleges that he'll make his future fandom. Texas Tech has been at the top, or near the top, of Dana's power rankings for a month and will get a chance to make a strong statement on Saturday.
Having Ric Flair in town sure as hell won't hurt.
