The Monahans Sandhills State Park is still one of the most visited tourist areas in the Basin and it is not going to be blown away anytime soon even though visitors inquire about the dunes possibly doing just that in the West Texas wind.

According to YourBasin.com, the most common question from visitors to the park is if the dunes are shrinking and if they are in danger of blowing away due to the windy West Texas climate.

Experts from Odessa College say the dunes are trapped in between the Davis Mountains to the south and the cap rock to the north which keeps the sand in place.

They also say it would take a major event to endanger the sand hills.

You can enjoy the park for $4 per person and children under 12 are free, for more information visit the website for the Monahans Sandhills State Park.
