Jameson Williams was the NFL’s Fastest WR in Week 14
It has been a long road for Jameson Williams to get back onto the football field, but the former Alabama All-American is off to a great start in his young career. When he caught a 41-yard touchdown pass from Jared Goff in Sunday’s game against the Vikings, Williams quickly reminded everyone how fast he is. He was the fastest wide receiver in week 14 with a top speed of 20.31 MPH on that play. Not bad for a player who suffered an ACL injury 11 months ago.
Williams played in just his second game for the Lions, but the rookie wide receiver is already feeling the love from the city of Detroit.
“They treat me very well,” Williams said. “I feel like it’s probably one of the best treatments I got in a while. I touch the ball, get on the field, score. It’s just electric man, I love it.”
His speed is what made him one of college football’s most electrifying players in 2021 and why the Lions traded up in the draft from No. 32 to No. 12 to select him.
Detroit is in a tight playoff race in the NFC with four games remaining in the regular season and Williams adds another dynamic playmaker to a team that ranks No. 4 in the NFL in total offense and No. 5 in scoring offense.
“I think he’s really starting to settle into his role a little bit,” Goff said on Wednesday. “Starting to settle into the offense and understand what plays are going to be his and understand where he fits on certain plays. He’s done a good job. It’s probably somewhat frustrating that it’s kind of been slower to get out there, but I think he’s done a good job of keeping his head down working. And hopefully as we go, his progression in the offense will continue to grow as well.”
The Lions will travel to the East Rutherford, NJ. this week to face the New York Jets in a must-win game for both teams. Kickoff is set for 12 p.m. CT and will air on CBS.
