Texas is the greatest state in the USA and I have no desire to ever live anywhere else. It's got its drawbacks though; for instance a lot of it ... including El Paso ... is sinking.

Several major Texas cities are sinking and one, the biggest city in Texas, is not only sinking faster than any other big city in the lone star state, it's the fastest "sinker" in the entire country.

Houston is dropping faster than any other city in the USA at the rate of about 1/5 of an inch per year with certain areas dropping 5 centimeters per year. And they're not alone ...

A study of all cities i the USA with populations of more than 600,000 showed that about 27 of them are sinking. Of those only about 8 are on or near a coastline and 6, (including El Paso), are in Texas. You can check out a map here.

Several other Texas cities were named some of the fastest-sinking cities in the U.S. San Antonio, Dallas and Houston are three of the eight cities that account for more than 60 percent of the people who reside on sinking land. - CHRON

How Fast Is Texas Sinking?

This has been going on for a while and experts predict that by 2100, Texas is going to be a bit smaller as parts of it wind up under water. Galveston, for example, has already seen tides rise 8 inches in the last 14 years and by 2040, experts predict that they could be up by 18 inches.

Looks like The Tragically Hip will be able to write a few new versions of their 1989 hit or at least modify the lyrics whenever they play in Texas.
