The fact that a Texas man for the last three years of his life was able to walk around and impersonate an officer is probably one of the most confusing and dangerous stories I’ve ever heard in my life. My first thought when I heard a man was accused of pretending to be an officer, according to KUVE, was simply “how”? Sean MacDonnell is a Pflugerville man who was charged with falsely identifying himself as an Austin police department officer in July 2020.

This particular crime is considered a class B misdemeanor, and he’ll be charged with false identification as an Officer, the maximum punishment is six months in jail and a $2000 fine. An affidavit stated that on January 15 the Austin police department saw MacDonald posting pictures to his social media showing him in the Austin PD apparel and of course, no one had ever seen or recognized the officer.

Not only did Sean have the uniform on but it featured the patches that APD wears, including the shoulder mic and there was at least one photo of him wearing a fully equipped gun belt. This is extremely disturbing. It doesn’t seem that MacDonald was making any type of arrest or enforcing any laws, but more just using the attire to show off and impress people says Dennis Farris, who is the Austin Police Retirement Officer Association. Farris explains that running around in a uniform knowing that officers put their lives on a line every day it’s just flat-out offensive. As of right now, MacDonald is currently in custody under a $5000 bond. I think a lot of us can sleep better knowing that this fraud is put behind bars.
