Measles Outbreak Spread Is Confirmed in Texas
According to the Lubbock Avalanche-Journal, West Texas is seeing the return of the highly contagious disease, measles. Measles is considered the world's most contagious disease and is spread through contact with an infected person’s nasal or throat secretions. Individuals who sneeze or cough can easily spread the virus, which can linger in the air or on surfaces for up to two hours. Those who are unvaccinated or haven't had the measles vaccine are particularly at risk of contracting the disease if they come into contact with an infected person.
Measles Resurfaces in Texas, Health Officials Confirm Outbreak
Recently, Lynn County reported a case of measles, marking the third such case in the region. Symptoms of measles include coughing, redness, and irritation of the eyes, fever, small red spots with white centers inside the mouth, a deep red flat rash, runny nose, sore throat, red eyes, body aches, and cough. The disease typically takes 8 to 12 days for symptoms to appear, with the rash developing 3 to 5 days after the onset of illness.
