Texas Girl Puts Her Money Where Her Heart is for the Homeless
You want to think that most people want to do good. Even if it is something on a small scale doing good for others is a great start. That is what one Lubbock, Texas girl was on a mission to do.
Her name is Davenee Jaramillo and at just 7-years-old she knew there were problems that she could help be a solution to. It is great that at just seven she was looking for answers. Davenee hated that there were so many homeless people and that made her feel bad.
She wanted to do something. She wanted to be able to provide something to help them. So she decided to start with her allowance money. She wanted to make goodie bags to pass out to the homeless people that she would encounter.
She just knew that her twenty-dollar allowance wasn't going to help a lot of people but it was a start. That is when her mom stepped in to help her daughter. Her mom had a group of friends so a group text was sent out.
She was hoping for and maybe expecting to raise a hundred dollars or so but the money started rolling in. They ended up collecting nearly eight hundred dollars. So that was a great start to put those goodie bags together.
In these bags that they started handing out, there were some essentials that would help out homeless people. The bags included food, a toothbrush and toothpaste, socks, and other goodies. The community came together to help donate other things like blankets, rain ponchos, and other items.
That is when the fun began. Davenee and her family started an assembly line to put the goodie bags together. They then went to a Lubbock homeless shelter to pass out the bags. They handed some out to Lubbock Police so they could hand them out to the homeless that they encountered throughout their day.
Davenee saw a problem in her community and did something about it. If you want to help donate as well you can go to Venmo and help HERE.
