Tariq Owens was known for blocking shots and catching alley-oops at Texas Tech. He's still doing both of those things, he's just having to be creative where he gets his opportunities. In his rookie NBA season after leading Texas Tech to an NCAA Championship appearance in his senior season, Owens signed a two-way contract with the Phoenix Suns, appearing in three games with the team. He most recently played for the Long Island Nets during the 2020-21 G League season.

His latest opportunity is as a part of The Basketball Tournament, an event held every summer where the winning team gets a million-dollar prize. Owens is playing for the Armored Athletes who have a long history in The Basketball Tournament and are a four-seed in the tournaments bracket out of the West Virginia Region.

In the first round game, the Armored Athletes absolutely dominated finishing the Elam Ending with a 88-52 victory over the HBCUnited.

Owens led all scorers with 15 points, despite not starting the game and only playing 17 minutes. The former Red Raider, who owns Texas Tech's all-time single-season record for blocks also added a block and seven rebounds to his totals.

Also, he did this.

Now, if you've ever seen a Tariq Owens game going back to probably high school, you've seen something similar to this. He did it probably one hundred times at Texas Tech, but it's impressive every single time.

The Red Raiders in 2021-22 sure hope one of the many transfers they pulled in can turn in a season as impactful as Owens in his single year in a Red Raider uniform.
