Cold Weather Advisory Issued as Dangerously Low Temperatures Set to Impact Midland and Odessa, Texas
Residents of West Texas and New Mexico are urged to make preparations as subzero temperatures are set to impact the area Tuesday night into Wednesday morning.
The National Weather Service in Midland has issued a Cold Weather Advisory from 6 p.m. Tuesday, January 7, through noon Wednesday, January 8, 2025. Wind chills as low as 1 degree Fahrenheit are possible during the approaching cold snap.
Mountain regions could see wind chill values of -5 degrees, and prolonged exposure to these dangerously low temperatures could lead to hypothermia.
The National Weather Service urges residents to cover their skin before heading outdoors and limit time spent in the cold to reduce the chances of frostbite.
The forecast for Tuesday night in Midland/Odessa calls for a low of 22 degrees, and snow showers are expected to arrive on Wednesday.
Current forecasts suggest parts of West Texas could see between one and three inches of snow accumulation between Wednesday and Friday.
Preparation for the approaching cold and snow includes properly insulating exposed pipes and allowing faucets to drip. Motorists are urged to use caution when driving on snow or icy roads.
