September 11th will always be an emotional day in New York.

We're 21 years removed from the tragedy that hit the United States on September 11, 2001. That said, no matter how far removed we are from that day, every year's anniversary brings back the memories, and emotions, that make it feel as though it just happened yesterday.

When the calendar hits 9/11 every year, New York's MLB and NFL teams are always in the middle of their respective seasons. Because of this, the Yankees, Mets, Giants and Jets all do their part to remember, and memorialize, all of those who lost their lives on that fateful day.

New York Sports Teams Memorialize Those Who Lost Their Lives on 9/11

The New York Jets, Giants, Yankees and Mets all had games on September 11, 2022. The Jets and Yankees were scheduled to play at home, while the Mets and Giants were playing road games.

That being said, all four teams, and their opponents that day, did their part in remembering those involved in the September 11th attacks on the World Trade Center.

It began at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, with a moving rendition of the National Anthem, which you can see below:

As written in a story by The New York PostNew York Police Department officer Brianna Fernandez was the singer. Fernandez is the daughter of former NYPD officer Luis Fernandez, who died in October 2014 of a 9/11-related cancer. Brianna works in the 9th precinct, where her father worked on 9/11.

If there were any dry eyes in the stadium during the pre-game ceremony, there weren't many.

Meanwhile, the New York Yankees were dealing with some weather issues at Yankee Stadium, but were still able to memorialize and remember in their own way. That included a gesture by starting pitcher Domingo German, who carried an American flag out with him as he went to the bullpen to warm up before the game:
