Earlier this week, the ceremonial renaming of a stretch of Business Interstate 20 took place in the Permian Basin.

Business Interstate Highway 20-J in Colorado City is now named after former mayor Jim Baum. Baum passed away in December 2018. He was the longtime owner-operator of two radio stations in Colorado City: KVMC-AM and KAUM-FM.

During the previous legislative session, State Senator Charles Perry (R-Lubbock) authored SB 1124, which renamed Business Interstate Highway 20-J in Colorado City in Baum's honor.

State Representative Dustin Burrows (R- Lubbock) authored the House version of the bill, and participated in the ceremony officially unveiling the signs honoring Baum.

In addition to owning the two radio stations, Baum also served as Colorado City's mayor three times, with his terms in office totaling more than 20 years, according to KBST-FM.
