World Series MVP Stephen Strasburg Among Nationals Players to File for Free Agency
2019 World Series Most Valuable Player Stephen Strasburg (pictured) opted out the final four years of his contract, and filed for free agency, on Saturday.
Strasburg had a 5-0 record in the postseason as he started five games, and pitched in 36 innings, en route to the Nationals World Series win.
Other Nationals players to file for free agency included: pitchers Jeremy Hellickson, Daniel Hudson, Jonny Venters and Fernando Rodney; catcher Yan Gomes; infielders Anthony Rendon, Asdrubal Cabrera, Brian Dozier, Matt Adams, and Ryan Zimmerman; and outfielder Gerardo Parra.
Strasburg, and Astros free agent pitcher Gerrit Cole, are expected to receive the two largest free agent contract offers before the 2020 season. Both pitchers share the same agent, Scott Boras.
