Grab those face masks El Paso, no- COVID isn’t returning, but those winds and blowing dust and sand are!

March in El Paso, Texas is the time of year when your allergy medication needs to be restocked, your hair has zero chance of looking decent, and stepping outside feels like entering a post-apocalyptic dust storm.

This whole week has been a hot (or should we say gusty?) mess

Mother Nature let out her best sand storm Monday when the wind decided to make an entrance—so intense that it even contributed to a house fire.

Then came Thursday’s windstorm, which turned the sky a lovely shade of brown, making us all feel like Dorothy mid-tornado, minus the cute ruby slippers.

Local photographer, Christian Churches, snapped a few awesome photos during the dust storm that will have you saying, “There’s no place like home. There’s no place like home."

And just when we thought we might catch a break—nope. Today, the wind is back for another round. The good news? It might be slightly weaker. The bad news? We’re still looking at gusts of 45-50 MPH, meaning your trash bins, patio chairs, and small pets are still at risk of being relocated.

According to the El Paso Weather Service, El Paso and Las Cruces are under a Wind Advisory and Blowing Dust Advisory from 11 AM - 7 PM. Hudspeth County? They’ve got a Red Flag Warning, while we’re all facing critical fire weather conditions.

If you don’t need to be out, Stay indoors, stock up on eye drops, and maybe invest in some goggles.
