Texas shines and New Mexico hums - Folks in one area of the land of enchantment can't shake this mystery hum. Is it paranormal? Aliens? Tinnitus? Hmm ...

Marfa, Texas is home to some mysterious lights that peeps, including an former NASA aerospace engineer, have been trying to figure out for centuries. They only appear at night and sometimes not at all.

In a blatant attempt to upstage us, New Mexico has an oddity you can't see at all. Ever.

Taos, New Mexico is home to some cool stuff like the historic Taos Pueblo, the Rio Grande Gorge Bridge and all the skiing/snowboarding fun in Taos Ski Valley. Since the early 1990's, it's also been home to a weird, creepy hum known as the "Taos Hum" buzzing that has yet to be explained and is making some folks sick.

Pretty weird, huh?

What Does The Taos Hum Sound Like?

According to locals, it's a steady, pulsing sound similar to a big engine or some type of heavy machinery operating at a really low speed. It's usually heard at night, inside and outside, when it's quieter and its source can never be tracked or isolated.

The Taos Mystery Hum Affects People Physically

On top of creeping people out, it's also making them sick. Those who hear it have reported headaches, nausea, fatigue, and sleep disruption as well as psychological  effects like irritability, anxiety, and not being able to concentrate. It seems to freak dogs out too.

Aliens? (New Mexico seems to be loaded with them.) Maybe it's ghosts? (They hum because they don't know the words - HAA!) Secret military operations? (NM is big on them too.) Who knows - To be honest, the whole state's got a weird vibe.

One last thing ... Not everybody hears the Taos Hum so, based on the effects noted above, this could just be a bunch of people with head colds. Just sayin' ...
