Odessa’s Ultimate Donut Showdown: Jack ‘N’ Jill vs Southern Maid
When you ask the people of Odessa, Texas, everyone seems to have their own opinion on their favorite local donut spot. The precise origin of donuts as a whole is wildly unknown, but surprisingly, the premise of frying dough has been a favorite for thousands of years.

I decided that it was time we did a battle of the donut shops. It is time to settle which local shop has the better donut once and for all.
The Opponents:
Jack 'N' Jill Donuts
Jack 'N' Jill Donuts is an establishment that is spread out throughout Texas. Having locations in cities such as Killeen, Waco, Temple, Odessa, McGregor, and Lorena. They are well-known for their donuts but their kolaches and croissants are also exceedingly popular as well.
Southern Maid Donuts
Southern Maid has been an Odessa, Texas favorite for decades. Originating in 1937, it's known for fresh, mouth-watering donuts that seem to melt in your mouth. Anyone who lives near their location is constantly hit with the smell of freshly baked dough on a daily basis.
Battle Royale
When comparing the two signature glazed donuts side-by-side they look practically the same. The Jack 'N' Jill donut had a visually larger donut while the Southern Maid donut had the appearance of being fluffier and more flaky. It seemed as if the Southern Maid donut was a tad fresher than Jack 'N' Jill's donut. As for taste, they were both delicious and melted in my mouth much like several locals describing it to me.
