Midland Airport Levels Up With TSA Upgrade
If you've ever flown out of Midland International Air & Space Port, you've probably noticed it isn't much different than other airports around the world. However, have you also noticed that there seems to be more traffic than usual? If you have in fact thought this, you are correct.

MAF is Doing Numbers!
According to the City of Midland's webpage, a major milestone was achieved in May, receiving a 4.67% increase in travelers from May 2024. That is just under 71,000 passengers in total! This surge is on par with an already impressive regional quota that is steadily increasing.
Southwest Airlines has been a major contributor to the growth, with an average of around 46.6% of all volume that passes through Midland International Air & Space Port.
MAF Compensates For Additional Volume With Additional TSA Checkpoint
Whether it was sheer luck or a serendipitous occasion, an additional TSA checkpoint has recently opened, thus making times through TSA much faster. This will increase the flow of people checking into the checkpoint and reduce times depending on the day and time. This perfectly compensates for the additional travelers that have been seen in recent months.
Traveling? Here Are Some Pointers
Despite the additional TSA checkpoint, it is still highly advised to arrive early, with ample time to get through the checkpoint and to arrive at your gate. It is pretty safe to say that you should fully expect higher-than-usual traffic within the airport as you travel to your destination.
