The Christmas classic from Bing Crosby has made it a regular thing to ask around this time of year, so what is the chance for Midland/Odessa to have a White Christmas?

According to The Farmer's Almanac, as usual, the chances are slim going by the long-range forecast. But anything can happen as we get closer to Christmas because the weather in West Texas is unpredictable and constantly changes.

But you can enjoy Bing Crosby singing "White Christmas" below:

The places where the probability is above 50% will be in various mountain locations in the western U.S., places around Lake Superior and Lake Ontario, and the northern part of New England.

Here is what the Farmer's Almanac says is their Christmas 2022 forecast:

"[The] long-range outlook suggests possible stormy weather over the Rockies and Plains with possible heavy snow. The Pacific Northwest and the Southwest US are also expected to turn unsettled with possible snow over the high-terrain areas. Farther east it is expected to be dry, but also an unseasonably cold Yuletide, especially over the Southeast US with possible frosts down to the Gulf Coast."

So we will probably just be dreaming of a white Christmas this year like we always do, but there have been a few years that Midland/Odessa was blessed with a white Christmas.

One that I can remember, even though I was not here for Christmas, was Christmas 1987. I was not here for it because I was spending it with family in Houston but I did have to experience the days following because I had to work on the day after Christmas so I had to fly back in for work, but Midland/Odessa was blessed with several inches of snow that Christmas.

We also had snow begin falling on Christmas evening back in 1997 and that gave us a couple of inches as well, there was no snow on the ground for Christmas morning that year, but there was for anyone celebrating Christmas on the day after.

So we will see how Christmas morning shapes up this year, but there is a very very slim chance according to the people who know.
