The owner of a horse stabbed 6 times at a barrel racing competition in Las Vegas is speaking out about the incident that began online.

Barrel Racer Relives Las Vegas Horse Stabbing Nightmare

New details are being revealed following a late-night animal cruelty attack at a Las Vegas barrel racing competition. Professional barrel racer Arielle Phillips is describing her face-to-face encounter with the 17-year-old competitor who is now charged with stabbing three horses. Her wild story begins with what she describes as an online obsession that ended in real-world violence.

An Online Obsession Turns into a Physical Threat

According to NBC, Phillips was in Vegas to compete in the National Barrel Horse Association (NBHA) Professional’s Choice Las Vegas Super Show. Phillips said the teenage suspect was not a stranger, but a digital stalker who had tracked her career on social media. According to Phillips, the girl had an intense fixation on her, and her prized horse named Detail.

Meeting in Person

Because the teenager was also a registered competitor in the event, the Las Vegas event provided her with unrestricted access to the high-security stable areas. Phillips told NBC that she had ignored the suspect’s digital messages in the past. While prepping Detail late Friday night, the teenager approached her stall twice asking questions that Phillips referred to as “weird”.

The Attack

Phillips said the girl made her uneasy, so she securely latched and triple-wrapped the stall door and headed back to her hotel room. Police say minutes after Phillips left the barn, the teenager brutally stab Detail six times with a knife. The violent act caused the horse to break out of her stall and run throughout the barn. The police say the teenager then called the daughter of Phillip’s boyfriend, claiming she found the horse wandering free.

A Return to the Barn

When Phillips returned to the stables, she found the teenager hosing down Detail’s deep puncture wounds. Phillips said she felt sick when Detail recoiled in terror when she reached out to comfort her.

Multiple Equine Victims Identified

The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department confirmed the teenager’s arrest following the 2:00 a.m. call. As it turns out, Detail was not the only horse attacked. Detectives found that two other elite horses were also stabbed during the rampage:

Rocket: Sustained non-life-threatening lacerations requiring veterinary intervention.

Saaul Good (Sully): An award-winning horse belonging to 20-year-old rider Hailey Krahenbuhl.

Sully was attacked just hours after Krahenbuhl won a first-place finish in the competition. While all three animals are expected to survive their physical injuries, the trauma has completely sidelined them from athletic competition indefinitely.

Prosecutors Seek Adult Charges for "Extreme Cruelty"

The 17-year-old teenage girl was booked into the Clark County Juvenile Hall on 12 counts of animal mutilation and torture, paired with three felony counts of malicious property destruction exceeding $5,000. Clark County District Attorney Steve Wolfson announced his intention to bypass the standard juvenile system and try the 17-year-old as an adult.
