Sustainable and Stylish: Austin’s New 3D-Printed Homes
Homes will always be needed in the state of Texas. Whether it be a family looking to upgrade, or somebody moving to a new part of the state, there's people always looking for a new house. But, there's a new type of home that'll be available to one in the state, and their 3D printed!
What Led To The Rise Of 3D Printed Homes?
It's hard to believe it, but the ways of construction have changed over the years. But for 3D Printing, it actually started all the way back in 1939. Per Arch Daily, we can thank William E. Urschel for inventing 3D printing. If you're wondering, Urschel created the first ever 3D printed concrete wall.
That was the starting point, and like all technology, it continued to expand and grow over time. So much so that the idea of 3D homes being printed became an interesting idea. Texas seems to have embraced that idea as well, especially in the state's capitol.

Where Are The 3D Printed Homes Being Built In Austin?
According to KXAN, ICON is spearheading the effort. The homes, identified as one bedroom, are part of an initiative called the Mueller Affordable Homes Program. As said by ICON:
“These resilient, energy-efficient 650 sq.-ft.-homes will be built alongside nearly a dozen two and three-bedroom 3D-printed homes...The project has broken ground with printing beginning this week.”
So what do the homes have in them? Per KXAN, on the first floor, there's a dining room, living room, and kitchen area in what was described as an "open" layout. On the second floor is the bathroom and the bedroom.
So it seems the 3D printed home future has arrived in the state of Texas. Are you excited for it? Let us know by sending us a message using the chat feature on our FREE station app!
