Drug arrests in Amarillo seem to be a relatively common thing sadly. Every day it seems someone is getting popped for distribution or transportation of SOMETHING in the Texas Panhandle, but some stories are a bit more interesting than others.

One of those arrests happened yesterday. The circumstances of the arrest and what the suspect was arrested for weren't exactly the shocking things, it was what she told police that really grabbed my attention.

WHAT STARTED THIS MESS

There had been reports of several drive-by shootings happening near a home on Lincoln St. Police began investigating those shootings as well as a home on Lincoln St. they believed to be involved in the shootings.

Police were able to obtain a search warrant on the home, and they recently executed the warrant on the home.

WHAT DID THEY FIND IN THE HOME

Inside they found containers of meth, several firearms, and ammunition. Seems the home definitely had something to do with the shootings considering the items inside. It would appear just from that and the shooting that the home was a target.

Another thing police found inside was the driver's license of Elizabeth Galindo, giving them someone to have a bit of a discussion with.

HERE'S WHAT THE SUSPECT HAD TO SAY

Obviously police are going to have questions about the things they found inside the home, but that's not what grabbed my attention. Police had apparently asked to take a look at Galindo's phone. She denied the consent for them to search her phone. I mean, that's red flag number one that something incriminating was on there, and it was.

She openly admitted that there were photos and messages about selling drugs on the phone, but she didn't take the blame herself. She put it on her 14-year-old son saying that he sent the messages on there. Seriously, who throws their own kid under the bus to try and get out of something?

HOW IT ALL ENDS

Police then obtained a search warrant for the phone. I mean she did admit to stuff being on the phone after all, no matter WHO sent it. Someone was going down for this. As police looked through the phone, they did indeed find the pictures she was talking about, but there was a twist to them.

The photos and videos they found weren't of her 14-year-old son, they were of her. She was handling the meth they had found previously in the photos and videos. They also found messages of her actively distributing the drugs.

In the end, Galindo, along with four other teenagers, was arrested and is now facing federal drug charges for possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine.

Mexican Cartels in the Lone Star State

Cartels are a reality of life in Texas. With our proximity to the Mexico border, the presence of cartels and drug trafficking were inevitable.

But which cartels have staked out their claim in Texas? Take a look below.
