Texas Ag Commissioner Speaks Out on Big Toothpaste
Recently, Texas has hit a weird spot when it comes to toothpaste. Specifically, the controversy lays in the additives that are included in each toothpaste brand.
Fluoride's Makin' the Kids Dumb!
Texas Agriculture Commissioner, Sid Miller, took the stand in a recent statement to voice his support for Attorney General Ken Paxton. It turns out that the AG has set his sights on major toothpaste manufacturers in Texas, particularly with their inclusion of unsafe levels of fluoride in their products.
If you weren't aware, fluoride is a common mineral that many cities across the country, including Lubbock, add to tap water to promote positive oral health.
The topic is elevated because, when you involve children, everyone starts paying attention. This is what's happening in the state as Paxton has claimed that manufacturers are deceptively misleading parents into using far more toothpaste on their children's teeth than what's recommended.
Commissioner Miller joined the fight by making claims of his own, saying that excessive exposure to fluoride in toothpaste is linked to lower IQ in children. Miller went to to compare this situation with that of other harmful dyes and additives:
It's no different from the petroleum-based dyes and additives we've fought to eliminate from our food and medicine.
The research that Paxton and Miller cited in their claims comes from the National Toxicology Program within the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.
Make America Healthy Again
Commissioner Miller ties this fight against big toothpaste to his original support for RFK Jr. when it comes to making America healthy. He said that Americans have a long history of being "bombarded" with harmful chemicals and additives that are meant to save costs and cut corners for large medicine and/or personal care companies.
