How Has Lubbock’s Population Grown in 2025?
Lubbock can lead to amazing opportunities for many whether it's for family or business. It's no wonder that the population saw a massive boost in 2025. Let's take a look at the people who call the Hub City home as 2026 kicks off.
Lubbock's Population Boom in 2025
You don't need to convince any citizen that Lubbock is indeed growing. In fact, according to World Population Review, the city currently sits around 272,100: nearly 20,000 more than from 2020.
This brings the annual rate of growth for the city to a solid 1.5%. Not bad given that Austin's annual growth rate is only 0.4%.
Lubbock County Grew Even More
These numbers only reflect the City of Lubbock. When we look at the county as a whole, we see the total population shoot to 332,354.

Here's a quick fact to impress your friends: Lubbock County is the 18th largest county in Texas, according to its population (254 total counties in the state). Harris County takes the number one spot in this list, by the way, at just over five million in 2025.
What Does the Average Lubbock Citizen's Life Look Like?
Imagine you're walking down Broadway Street in downtown Lubbock, what does the average person you meet look like? Well, in 2025, nearly 65% of the population is white. 16% are mixed while 8% are African American.
Whether they try to be flashy repping their $100 Red Raider t-shirts, the average income for the city sits at a cool $45,207. This number jumps to $60,487 for average household income.
Finally, because Lubbock is home to one of the most notable universities in the country, Texas Tech, the average age is about 30 years old (29.5 for men, 31.4 for women).
Lubbock has continued to grow every year which is awesome! We just need to remind ourselves to stick to our roots... those being tortillas flying in the air, 10 stray cats for every one human, and enough dust storms that they cease to amaze people anymore.
