I just hope you have some time to get outside and do something fun this weekend.

While it may be a bit warmer than average this weekend in East Texas, you still can't complain about temperatures hovering around 80 or so with lots of sunshine. It is going to be a perfect weekend for an Easter egg hunt, checking out some classic cars at a car show, or looking at some new boats at the boat show.

I know there's yard work to be done along with de-weeding the flowerbed and whatnot, but we've earned our weekend to get out there and do something different and to be a part of the community. Yardwork can be done later!

If you're going to be outdoors for a long period of time, don't forget about the sunscreen because you can get a sunburn this weekend.

Through education and play, kites provide a family-friendly and environmentally responsible hobby that encourages the exploration of science, technology, engineering, art, and mathematics (STEAM).

Go Fly a kite Day is celebrated on the third Sunday of April every year. This year it will take place on April 20. Because of Easter Sunday, we will celebrate earlier.

The phrase ‘Go Fly a Kite’ does not always literally mean you should go and fly a kite, it is also an idiom that is used when you want someone to go away or leave you alone. This is because telling someone to go fly a kite requires them to do so. The phrase initially appeared in the 1940s and remained popular for several decades afterward. This national festival indicates that individuals should fly a kite instead of telling someone to leave.
