Share Your Ofrenda in the Crossroads Día de los Muertos Gallery

Día de los Muertos isn’t about mourning; it’s about remembering. Across the Crossroads, families are building beautiful ofrendas, or altars, to honor loved ones who have passed. Each candle, photo, and marigold represents a story, a memory, and a bond that never fades.
Whether your ofrenda is a simple setup on your kitchen table or a full display covered in color and yummy treats, we’d love to see it. This year, we’re creating the Crossroads Ofrenda Gallery, a digital space where our community can come together to share, remember, and celebrate those we love and miss.

Here’s how to be part of it:

Submit a photo of your ofrenda and tell us who you’re honoring this year. Maybe it’s a parent, grandparent, sibling, or friend. Maybe it’s a beloved pet who always felt like family. Every altar tells a story, and we want hear hear yours.

If you’re new to Día de los Muertos, the ofrenda is the centerpiece of the celebration, a welcoming space filled with candles, food, sugar skulls, marigolds, and mementos that invite loved ones’ spirits to visit from October 31 through November 2. It’s a beautiful reminder that love doesn’t end with loss.

If you need help building your own ofrenda, here are a few key elements that are used on most altars and each holds a significant meaning.

  • Marigolds are a traditional flower for Dia de los Muertos. Their bright color and strong fragrance are believed to help guide spirits to your home.
  • Candles on altars are like a landing strip. When you light the candles, they shine bright and help the spirits of your loved ones easily find your home.
  • Food that reminds you of your loved ones is placed on altars as offerings.
  • Photos of ancestors and loved ones are placed on altars to honor them.
  • Personal objects of departed loved ones are often displayed to celebrate the lives they lived.
  • Colorful skulls are painted in bright colors and symbolize the cycles of life and death.
