Why pass the time staring at your boring local weather channel when you could turn the forecast into an actual game? If you live in West Texas, our weather is already basically a full-contact sport. A fun way to get the most out of your local forecast is with the West Texas Weather Channel Drinking Game!

Of course, this isn't a game to play first thing in the morning before work. I know. It would make the day more interesting, but you've got to keep the lights on and the cat fed.

The West Texas Weather Channel Drinking Game (WTWCDG) is best enjoyed on the weekend AND with friends. (You know what they say about drinking alone...you might have a great time! JK. It's sad, and your mom is worried about you.)

I just so happen to have a copy of the official rulebook up my sleeve, and I can't wait to share it with you, not only because it's a blast, but also because it's bulky and has been rubbing a blister on my arm. Let's take a peek at it together...

Official Rules For The West Texas Weather Channel Drinking Game

  • Take one sip when the weatherman says "isolated showers" — that's West Texas meteorologist slang for "nah, your area is gonna be dry as a bone."
  • Take two sips when the radar zooms in and shows the tiniest of green specks near Lubbock.
  • Take a HUGE gulp when they predict a "light breeze" and your trees are bending backwards just out the window.

Special Event Rules

  • Tornado Watch - Take 2 small sips and buckle your seatbelt.
  • Tornado Warning - CHUG YOUR DRINK, grab a mattress, and sprint to the bathtub.
  • Extreme Heat Watch/Warning - That one shot, chased with Gatorade.
  • Fire Weather Watch - Take one sip every time they mention "fire", and if the phrase "extreme drought" is used, finish your drink and whatever drink is within a 3-foot radius.
  • Hail - Chug your drink, and eat all the ice.

Bonus Rules

  • Victory Shot - If the forecast is actually correct, or spot on, take a victory shot of something expensive
  • Null Shot - If they say "the storm system is headed south" and you're not even going to see a single cloud, pour your drink out in solidarity.

Our weather doesn't just keep you guessing; it often spooks your lawnmower, rearranges your panty drawer, and scares the crud out of your cat. But when you turn our quirky forecasts into a drinking game, at least you'll catch a little buzz while the chaos unfolds.
