Update: Suspect In Alpine School Shooting Dead From Self-Inflicted Injuries


The entire school district was put on lock down after an active shooter entered Alpine High School.

UPDATE 11:28 a.m. – Victim was the presumed shooter. No other suspects are currently being investigated.

UPDATE 11 a.m. – Death allegedly was a suicide. An officer was shot in friendly fire.

UPDATE 10:48 a.m. – One person has been confirmed dead, according to the Brewster County Attorney.

Police responded to an active shooter report at 9 a.m. on September 8th. Students were evacuated from Alpine High School at 9:45 a.m.

At least one person was shot and taken to the hospital. It is unknown whether it was a student or teacher or if his or her injuries are considered life-threatening.

The police believe there may be two shooters involved. However, there is currently no information about the identities of the shooters.

According to police, the situation at the school is under control.

Alpine is located east of Marfa is southwestern Texas. The city has a population of about 6,000 people and there are only about 1,000 students in the school district. The high school has 277 students enrolled.
