Tim Tebow Hits Home Run in First Minor League At-Bat. Yes, Tim Tebow.
Maybe this baseball thing isn’t such a bad idea, after all.
Tim Tebow — the ridiculed, mocked and much-maligned Tim Tebow — belted a home run in his first at-bat for the Columbia Fireflies, the New York Mets Class-A affiliate.
The former Heisman Trophy winner, who had a much less auspicious first at-bat with the big league squad in spring training, jacked a 2-1 pitch into the left field seats for a two-run blast on Thursday, staking his team to a 2-0 lead over the Augusta GreenJackets in the bottom of the second inning. Yeah, that’s opposite field power. The crowd loved it.

Take another look. Tebow, who didn’t realize he hit a homer, stopped at second base before continuing his trot toward home because he appeared to think he’d hit a ground rule double. That, or he couldn’t possibly believe he’d gone yard.
Tebow, 29, went 1-5 in the Fireflies’ 14-7 shellacking.
The unlucky pitcher who gave up the tater, by the way, is Domenic Mazza, who, as the New York Times‘ David Waldstein notes, was a draft pick of particular interest to the ultra-Christian Tebow and now the answer to a trivia question no one will ever get.
Tebow homered off Domenic Mazza, who was drafted in the 22nd round by the Giants in 2015…That was pick No. 666.

After the game, the former Bronco, Jet, Patriot and Eagle discussed the home run, saying, pretty obviously, “It felt good.” He also tried to put it into perspective, adding there is a lot more season left and this is all just a process. Whether or not that process gets him to the big league club remains to be seen, although many would be surprised if that should ever happen.
